Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the team enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
